Our new report asks: Is electronic messaging innovative or exploitative?

Responding to the Federal Communications Commission's request for comment on advanced communication services, our new report finds that electronic messaging — which is often referred to as "email for prisoners" — actually has very little in common with mainstream email. FCC's next regulations should close loopholes and address video visitation

We submitted four analyses in addition to our new report on electronic messaging in prisons and jails. We urge the FCC to further protect incarcerated people and their families. Read more.
