Local journalists from California to New York used our new report to investigate the cost of phone calls in their local jails. "County officials with a heart" should "begin a conversation now" about making the calls free, argues columnist David Andreatta in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

As Connecticut prison gerrymandering lawsuit moves forward, six states consider legislation

On Tuesday, the NAACP's lawsuit challenging prison gerrymandering in Connecticut survived the state's motion to dismiss. The lawsuit, if successful, would make Connecticut the fifth state to end prison gerrymandering since we began advocating for change. Meanwhile, six states are also currently considering bills to end the practice.
